Sudan: I fled Khartoum by bus - says Pakistani worker

Another ceasefire came into force in Sudan overnight Monday into Tuesday, and was announced by the US Secretary of State. Previous ceasefires have failed to hold. The United Nations Secretary General has warned that the violence in Sudan could cause catastrophe and engulf the whole region.

Evacuations of foreign nationals are continuing as thousands of people attempt to flee. But despite the exodus, millions have chosen to stay put. The journey out of the embattled capital is fraught with danger, as Newsday's Tom Hagler heard when he called Hasseeb, a 38-year-old engineer from Pakistan who's been working in Sudan for the past eight months. He escaped the capital Khartoum and travelled on a bus to Port Sudan.

"The whole building was trembling, we could not sleep at night... people were being robbed by militia... the situation was getting out of control... people are running for their lives."
