The Indian hitchhiking his way out of Khartoum
Among the many thousands fleeing Sudan is Maheen, from Kerala in India. He was hitchhiking around Africa and was in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, when a rivalry between Sudan's top two generals erupted into conflict, pitting the Sudanese army against the Rapid Support Forces.
He was close to the border with Ethiopia when he spoke to Newsday. He said: 鈥淪udanese people鈥re kind people. They are hospitable people鈥here鈥檚 people on the road to give juice鈥ater to the fleeing people鈥ven for me. I was short on cash and all the people were taking me in trucks or bus鈥or free.鈥
