EU pressure on India over imported processed Russian oil
EU's Joseph Borrell says India buys Russian oil and processes it into fuel for Europe.
EU officials meet India’s foreign minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar amid concerns over processed imported Russian oil. The EU’s high representative for foreign policy Joseph Borrell says Brussels is aware that India has been buying Russian oil in large volumes and processing it into fuel for sale in Europe. In an interview with the Financial Times, he said the EU should crack down on India reselling Russian oil as refined fuels, including diesel, to Europe.
Although the practice is not illegal under the EU sanctions on Russia, the issue is expected to be raised at the first meeting of India-EU Trade and Technology in Brussels, Tuesday.
