Suranne Jones: ‘Now I pull my own chair up at my own table and it’s really nice’

Bafta-winning actor Suranne Jones tells Hayley Hassall on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Woman's Hour why she chose to create a production company, alongside her husband, to give herself a seat at the table. Despite landing a string of starring roles, she says she didn’t always feel like she had a say as an actor, and that she wants to change that.

Suranne was on the programme to talk about her new ITV drama Maryland, which follows two sisters as they discover that their mother was leading a secret life up until her mysterious death. She shared why she wanted to play a woman her own age and how it feels to now lead her own production company and be the one making the decisions.

Plus, she gave us a few hints about the second series of Vigil, which she’s currently filming… She says it will be ‘looking towards the skies rather than the waters’. You can listen to the full interview on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Sounds – it’s the episode from 17 May.
