Saudi Arabia and the United States have urged the warring parties in Sudan to stop violating the seven-day truce so that humanitarian aid can reach those in need.

The agreement commits both sides in general terms to let in badly needed humanitarian assistance but sporadic fighting is making it difficult for aid to be delivered.

Dr AbdelRahim Mohamed Ibrahim is head of general surgery at the trauma unit at El Obeid Hospital. He told Newsday that in the last 24 hours, five people have died and 30 have been bought in with injuries from the conflict.

He says they have three oxygen cylinders left and are currently carrying out their work using the lights on their mobile phones. If the power is not restored within 24 hours, 鈥渢he hospital will be closed鈥� electricity is the life of the hospital. We can鈥檛 do anything without electricity.鈥�
