2: Police charge an innocent man with murder
Ten days after Nikki鈥檚 body was found police arrest an innocent man for her murder.
Innocent man George Heron lived in the same block of flats as Nikki and her family. He was questioned by police for three days before eventually making a 鈥渟o-called鈥� confession. At trial, the judge ruled his police interview tapes 鈥渋nadmissible鈥� and he was acquitted. In 2023, Northumbria issued a formal apology to Mr Heron.
