New Zealand鈥檚 national airline is asking passengers to step on the scales before they board international flights.

Air New Zealand says it wants to weigh 10,000 passengers over a five-week period in order to gather data on the weight load and distribution for planes.

Michael Baird is an aviation expert in Australia. He told Newsday: 鈥淚t can be quite a sensitive topic but I think from a passenger point of view the benefit is that you are weighed with your carry-on luggage鈥� and also the weights will not be visible to anybody鈥� even yourself. It will just be recorded.鈥�
