Josh Tongue family friend nets over $60k from England debut

When Josh Tongue walked out at Lord鈥檚 Cricket Ground earlier this week, he not only earned his first Test cap, but also 拢50,000 ($62,681) for a family friend.

Tim Piper wagered 拢100 ($125) at odds of 500/1 when the now Worcestershire bowler was 11 years old that he would represent England in Test cricket.

Tim Piper told Newsday: 鈥淚 was very good friends with his father, Phil鈥 I can remember one evening, he was two-years old, and I could hear Phil shouting instructions in the back garden鈥 and I saw this little lad batting鈥 then he started bowling鈥 he was bowling leg-spin, which is the hardest thing to bowl in test cricket.鈥

Mr Piper adds: 鈥淚 won鈥檛 share (the win) but I will certainly sort him something.鈥
