Targeted by Exam Scammers
Pupils are being quoted hundreds of pounds by social media scammers for what they claim are leaked exam papers. But exam boards say these are almost certain to be fakes.
You might have seen them on TikTok or Instagram: adverts claiming to have access to a 2023 leaked exam paper. Hundreds of pupils across the UK are being targeted by scammers, asking for anything from 拢7.50 and 拢4,000 per paper. But the 大象传媒 has heard of cases where the papers turn out to simply be fakes, and where the accounts involved mysteriously disappear after the money is sent.
Exam boards say it is rare for legitimate exam papers to be leaked.
For 5 Minutes On, Kristian Johnson has been speaking to an anonymous 15-year-old GCSE student who approached one of the scam accounts and was quoted 拢500 for a biology paper. He also hears from the exam board, AQA, on the warning signs to look out for with these adverts, and the chief executive of Ofqual on the implications for pupils who are caught cheating.
