Largest ruby to ever appear at auction sells for $34.8m
The biggest ruby ever to come to auction has been sold in New York for a record sum of $34.8m. The "Estrela de Fura鈥 or "Star of Fura," named after the company that mined the stone, was a staggering 101 carats when it was pulled from a mine last year in a mine in Mozambique. Sotheby's jewellery specialist Sophie Stevens was in New York for the auction, and explains to the 大象传媒's Will Bain why there is so much potential in Mozambique gem mines.
