Ellie Simmonds: 'We need to talk about adoption more and more'
Five-time Paralympic gold medallist Ellie Simmonds retired from professional swimming after the Tokyo Paralympics in 2021. With her new-found time, she decided that she wanted to learn more about her birth mother.
Ellie was adopted within months of being born and whilst she's always known she was adopted, she hadn't previously tried to find her birth parents.
She joined Woman’s Hour’s Anita Rani to talk about her search, which forms the basis of her moving documentary, Finding My Secret Family. She also spoke about why she thinks we need to talk more about the adoption of children with a disability.
Head to ´óÏó´«Ã½ Sounds to listen to the full interview by downloading the Woman's Hour podcast episode from 6 July.
Ellie Simmonds: Finding My Secret Family is on ITV tonight at 9pm.
