Leaving Tunisia - Africa migrants seeking a route out to safety
In Tunisia, mobs have been targeting Sub-Saharan African migrants in the coastal city of Sfax. Tensions have been on the rise there since a Tunisian man was stabbed to death in an altercation with migrants.
Sfax is a port city and the country’s economic capital, and there are thousands of migrants trying to get to Europe on boats from there. President, Kais Saied has been criticised recently for stirring up hatred against Sub-Saharan African migrants.
Newsday heard from Josephus Thomas – a migrant from Sierra Leone who is trying to leave Tunisia with his family and Professor Monica Marks from the New York University in Abu Dhabi who is in the Tunisian city of Gafsa.
