Conservationists welcome broad-toothed rat news

We hear many stories in the news about animals that are endangered or even coming close to extinction.

So here on Newsday this morning we thought we鈥檇 bring you the story of the discovery of a new population of rare rodents in Australia.

Broad-toothed rats were found in an area outside the city of Melbourne in the southern state of Victoria.
Newsday heard why the discovery is so welcomed from Zoos Victoria Research Assistant Sakib Kasi.

"We get so few of these positive stories in conservation. It's got chubby cheeks... they are seriously, seriously cute and I will stand by that statement."
