Nato summit urged to consider Ukraine membership roadmap
This Nato summit is seen as crucial as the decisions made by the leaders of the 31 -- soon to be 32 -- members could shape the direction of the war in Ukraine. The allies hope to show Russia they have the resolve to support Ukraine militarily for the long term. But there remains disagreement over what to say about Ukraine's own ambitions of future membership.
Yegor Chernev, the head of the Ukrainian delegation to Nato, joined Newsday from the summit in Vilnius to explain what his country is looking for.
"We are waiting for a clear signal that Ukraine will become a member-state after the war... we want to make this way as short as possible."
