Rosie Jones: ‘I’m highlighting it as a word that’s still used casually and it needs to stop’

Warning: This description refers to discriminatory language

The comedian Rosie Jones, who has cerebral palsy, has made a personal documentary about the online abuse and ableist slurs that she and other disabled people are subjected to.

But the inclusion of a particular discriminatory word in the title of the documentary has caused controversy and some contributors have withdrawn their contribution from the programme.

In her first broadcast interview since the backlash, Woman’s Hour’s Nuala McGovern asked Rosie why she chose to call the documentary, Rosie Jones: Am I a R*tard? when that's the very word that she most objects to being used about her.

You can listen to Rosie’s full interview on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Sounds - it’s the Woman’s Hour episode from 11 July. You can also watch the documentary on Channel 4 on Thursday 20 July at 10pm.
