Leicester to welcome a mix of giant puppetry and physical theatre

A giant 12 foot puppet conceived and built by a Leicester puppet maker returns to the city this weekend for the Journeys Festival International.

'Out of the Deep Blue' is an outdoor physical theatre performance featuring a large-scale sea giant puppet called EKO - it's operated by five puppeteers and a female contemporary dancer, and is inspired by the themes of the climate emergency and the biodiversity crisis.

The giant puppet was designed and built by Leicester puppetry maker Tom Cleaver - aka 'Mr Cleaver's Monsters'. For the last 2 years EKO has been touring all over the world and this weekend's shows are something of a homecoming.

EKO will be roaming the streets of Leicester before appearing a 2 shows in the city centre on both Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

Artistic director at Autin Dance Theatre Johnny Autin explains to Chance Litchfield what to expect to see this weekend.
