Leicestershire woman's quest to save birds makes her surprise social media star
A Leicestershire woman whose passion for wildlife halted work to cut back a hedge where birds are living has received hundreds of supportive messages via social media.
Kaye Gillanders told the council contractors, who were about to cut a hedge between her home and a neighbouring school in Ashby, to stop, in case they damaged nesting baby birds.
Kaye's story - which was shared on social media by 大象传媒 Radio Leicester - has now been seen by over 1.8 million people, hundreds of whom have sent her messages applauding her actions. The post has also been 'liked' by nearly 14 thousand people.
Leicestershire County Council says its operatives should assess the hedge for nesting birds and postpone work if any are discovered and is reminding contractors of the procedures.
Kaye tells 大象传媒 Radio Leicester reporter Jo Hollis of her surprise of becoming an unlikely Facebook star, but is delighted by the outpouring of support.
