'Morris dancing is joyous and it's infectious'
The centuries-old tradition of Morris dancing is making an unexpected comeback.
From all-female sides creating TikTok routines appearing all over social media, to the record numbers of people celebrated May Day this year - Morris culture is diversifying and attracting younger crowds. And an article in 'Time Out' magazine this month describes what's happening as 'very cool'.
The 'Leicester Morris' group celebrates 70 years of Morris dancing in and around Leicester in 2023. Formed in 1953, the side has developed and evolved over the years and the dancing and playing skills have been passed down from old hands to newer members.
Leicestershire Morrisman of over 60 years Charlie Corcoran gives his reaction to the resurgence in interest in Morris dancing to Ady Dayman, and reveals how the 'Leicester Morrismen' are adapting with changes planned to their group for later this year.
