Trump indictment: 'No-one is above the law'

Former US President Donald Trump has been charged with plotting to overturn his 2020 election defeat. The charges include conspiracy to defraud the US and an attempt to obstruct an official proceeding.

Special Counsel Jack Smith was appointed to oversee investigations into Trump, including his involvement in the 6 th January 2021 riot which occurred while Congress was certifying Joe Biden's victory.

Mike Sozan, senior fellow at the Centre for American Progress and former attorney for the US Justice Department, told Newsday: "No-one is above the law, not even a former president."

The indictment he says relates to "one of the darkest days in US history" and Trump will have his day in court; he's facing multiple trials now and the latest appearance at a federal court will be on Thursday.
