Leicester culinary institution closes after 33 years in business
The Case Restaurant has been a staple in Leicester city centre for 3 decades.
It was just over a week ago that it was announced that The Case Restaurant and Champagne Bar is to close after 33 years.
It's been a staple in Leicester city centre for 3 decades but the owner David Hartshorn announced the news 'with a heavy heart' saying The Case had survived recessions and a pandemic, but now had 'no more to give.'
Mr Hartshorn also criticised Leicester City Council for its redevelopment of the Hotel Street area which he claims had a significant impact on his business.
In response, Leicester City Mayor Sir Peter Soulsby told ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio Leicester that 'It’s sad to see The Case closing after so many years, and a shame they have not been able to capitalise on the massive investment made in the Hotel Street area. This investment – started by the council and then boosted by the Shearer Property Group - has established this part of the city as a great destination for food and drink, with 16 new venues now operating there since we opened the King Richard lll Visitor Centre in 2014.'
Ben Jackson has been to The Case, whilst David still had the keys and sat down to talk to him about his decision to close his business.
