Bibby Stockholm: Target reached to fund legal challenge against barge
An online fundraising page, to finance a planning challenge against the Bibby Stockholm accommodation barge docked at Portland Port, has exceeded its initial target of 拢15,000.
It was launched by Portland's Mayor, Labour Councillor Carralyn Parkes, as a private individual. Carralyn told Steve Harris that more donations will be needed to continue challenging the Home Office and raising 拢15,000 is simply the "first hurdle" for serving the government with legal papers.
The Home Office has previously told us the welfare of those in its care is of the utmost priority and that the accommodation provided is safe and appropriate, adding "this is a tried-and-tested approach that mirrors that taken by our European neighbours, the Scottish government and offers better value for the British taxpayer."
