Digging for the Comber Earlies is underway
Comber Early potatoes are a signature Summer staple for many in County Down. This year's growing season has been challenging for farmers to say the least with very dry conditions coupled with unseasonably wet weather. The farmers' determination is certainly stronger than ever, despite the challenges, as the digging for this year's Comber Earlies is well underway. The town of Comber hosts an annual 'Comber Earlies Festival' celebrating this esteemed spud and our reporter, Peter Donnelly, spoke to the event's organiser at Ards and North Down Borough Council, Wendy Smith, and Chairman of the Comber Earlies Growers Co-operative, Richard Orr about 2023's Festival.
