Honouring the Hindu faith on the River Soar
It is the wish of most Hindus to have their cremated ashes scattered on the River Ganges. The Hindu belief is that if a deceased鈥檚 ashes are laid to rest in this way their soul will be transported to heaven and escape the cycle of rebirth.
Obviously, often this is not possible for those who live outside of India, and so over time more and more families are adopting rivers in the UK as respectful places to carry out this ceremony. Other families choose to scatter directly into the sea as this has flow too.
Here in Leicestershire, one of the places that people can do that is along the River Soar.
