Episode 12

Three antiques dealers head to the beautiful town of Pézenas in the Occitanie region to find two hidden treasures each which they know they can sell for a profit online in just a day.

Antiques dealers Viki Knott, Ian Humphries and Moses Otunla are on a buying trip to the south of France. Their base is a historic French farmhouse in Provence, perfectly located close to some of France’s best antiques markets. This time, the trio are heading to the beautiful town of Pézenas in the Occitanie region.

The town is home to over 50 antiques shops, and over 150 additional traders set up stalls twice a year along 2km of the high street for ‘le grande deballage’, or the great unboxing. It is a big event in the antiques calendar for traders from all over Europe, and today, Viki, Ian and Moses are getting in on the action. They are competing to find two hidden treasures each which they know they can sell for a profit online in just a day.

The trio’s first challenge is to find something they know will appeal to their loyal customers and social media followers. Ian, who specialises in quirky items and traditional antiques, thinks a pair of jugs featuring a duck and a cockerel will fly off the shelves when he comes to post them online back at the farmhouse. Made by iconic French ceramics factory St Clement, which was favoured by Queen Marie Antoinette, they certainly have heritage, but do they have the vintage Ian's clients demand?

Viki can be found at the far end of the market. She’s got her eye on a dozen plates in the form of fish with a matching sauce boat. Viki’s quick to do a deal as she knows the colourful fish plates have become fashionable with the mid-century crowd, but will Viki’s new beige numbers be vibrant enough for her vintage buyers?

Moses is also getting in on the vintage natural history theme. It’s a French educational, anatomical poster of a skeleton that has caught his eye. Being well-schooled in doing deals in the local lingo could put Moses at the top of the class for this challenge, but only if he can sell the poster online within a day and make the most profit back at the farmhouse.
