How Rory McIlroy fuelled Ryder Cup victory with stoicism
The big sports news on Monday was the dramatic victory of team Europe against the USA in the Ryder Cup golf competition, with the Northern Irish star Rory McIlroy leading his team to a memorable triumph. But what also got attention is McIlroy's revelation that he took inspiration from a Roman emperor. He said he鈥檚 been studying the stoic philosophy of Marcus Aurelius - and he鈥檚 not the only one. Ryan Holiday, an author and host of the podcast The Daily Stoic, told Newsday what was behind the popularity of stoicism. It includes focusing on ''what we can control" and to not "be overwhelmed by emotions".
