Olivia Rodrigo: 'I'm 'figuring out my emotions and who I want to be'
Californian pop superstar Olivia Rodrigo says her album is all about emotions, regretful nights and making mistakes.
The Californian-born pop superstar Olivia Rodrigo, at just 20 years old, is a defining voice of the decade. She first gained recognition as an actor on the Disney television programmes Bizaardvark and High School Musical: The Musical.
In 2020, she released her first single Driver's Licence, which became an international hit. Then she released her first album, Sour, in 2021 and has since won three Grammy Awards, seven Billboard music awards and four MTV music video awards.
Her latest album, Guts, has spawned hit singles, including Vampire and Bad Idea Right?. The 大象传媒's Jack Saunders recently caught up with Olivia who explained why it is a retrospective album.
"It's definitely me chronicling my youth and me figuring out all these emotions and who I want to be in this world. I think all my songs are about that...It definitely is a vibe of being young," she says.
"All the best stuff comes from you having fun or trying to express something that's important to you," says Rodrigo, adding, "When I listen to this album I just hear myself making all these mistakes and rising from all this disillusionment I've been feeling."
