‘It was absolutely amazing’: Hoogland breaks cycling world record

Dutch cyclist Jeffrey Hoogland says the “amazing feeling” of breaking the long-standing men's 1km time trial world record has given him a “mental boost” ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The current world champion posted a time of 55.433 seconds in Mexico – almost a second ahead of Francois Pervis' 2013 benchmark of 56.303 seconds which was the longest-standing track cycling world record.

Hoogland set the new record at the Aguascalientes Velodrome in Mexico, recording an average speed of 64.943km/h.
