'It was a full circle moment’: Jamie MoCrazy on returning to the mountain that nearly killed her
Jamie MoCrazy on her life-changing accident and returning to the slopes
“I was competing as a professional skier, travelling the world. Everything seemed like it was going great and then I was caught up in a metaphorical avalanche which slid me down to the bottom.”
That’s how Jamie MoCrazy reflects on a life-changing accident which led to the professional freestyler skier fighting for her life and having to learn everything again.
MoCrazy – who changed her legal name from Crane-Mauzy to her nickname after marrying – spent time in a coma and faced a lengthy rehabilitation process.
Her family were with her every step of the way and she's since become an advocate for others who have suffered traumatic brain injuries, including setting up the MoCrazy Strong Foundation - a non-profit organisation.
She felt like it was a “full circle moment” when she returned to the top of the mountain where the accident happened to get married in May 2022.
Jamie and her sister Jeanne share the story with Sportshour’s Shabnam Younus-Jewell.
