Liverpool footballer Luis Diaz's father freed by kidnappers in Colombia

The father of Colombian-born Liverpool footballer Luis D铆az has been released by the left-wing guerrillas who kidnapped him 13 days ago, police sources and local media say.

Members of the National Liberation Army (ELN) handed Luis Manuel Diaz over to representatives from the UN and the Catholic Church at an undisclosed location near the Venezuelan border.

Journalist Carl Worswick in the Colombian capital. Bogot谩, told Newsday that ''hundreds of people had gathered outside Mr Diaz's home when he arrived'' to welcome him. There were ''musical bands, tears were shed and hugs given out. It was a day of celebration for the country, nothing else was on the news.''
