Thousands of miles away from conflict in the Middle East in Chile, Club Deportivo Palestino says it is acting as a voice for Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.

Chile is home to the largest Palestinian population outside of the Middle East and the professional football club was created by Palestinian immigrants in 1920.

Jos茅 Ignacio Nabzo is spokesperson of the club. He told Newsday that the club was formed 鈥渢o carry the flag of Palestine throughout Chile and South America鈥�Chile was a good destination since it was a society in which they could easily insert themselves鈥�.

He adds: 鈥淚t鈥檚 very important to represent the Palestinians at this moment because they don鈥檛 have a voice鈥�we seek to inform and make visible throughout the sports the horrible reality that Palestinians face. We don鈥檛 speak about religion, politics. We only speak鈥�about Palestinian people and their human rights.鈥�
