Why does Lesotho have an alarming suicide rate?
A recent study shows that Lesotho recorded 87.5 deaths per 100 000 people. The government says one reason could be that it doesn鈥檛 have the resources to deal with mental illness.

Recently released data from the World Health Organisation shows that Lesotho is amongst a group of African countries with an alarming rate of suicide. The southern African nation recorded 87.5 deaths per 100 000 people.
Other countries with a similar problem include neighbouring Eswatini, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Mozambique. Alan Kasujja attempts to understand why Lesotho鈥檚 suicide level is so high.
