‘More Palestinian children jailed post October 7th’

Palestinian lawyer says while Palestinian youngsters have been released in the last four days, since the Hamas attacks there are now 300 under 18-year-olds in Israeli prisons.

The truce in Gaza between Israel and Hamas has entered its fifth day after Qatari mediators announced a 48-hour extension.

The lengthened ceasefire will again see three Palestinians released from Israeli jails for each Israeli hostage returned from Gaza.

Khaled Quzmar has worked for years as a lawyer representing Palestinian children in Israeli military courts. He is currently General Director of Defense for Children International – Palestine, an organisation which offers legal aid to children, including some of those who were released. He told Newsday while Palestinian youngsters had been released under the truce, there were more in jail post October 7th than before: “The number of children inside the prison under the age of 18 before the 7th of October (was) 160 to 180 but after the 7th of October the number increased to 300.â€
