Sudan's civil war shows 'no signs of stopping'
'The fighting is not stopping. Markets are being bombed...homes are being occupied' says Mathilde Vu from the Norwegian Refugee Council.
After nearly eight months of fighting in Sudan, there has been no let-up in the clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia.
The war began in April 2023. Most recently the RSF has been making some gains in the East Darfur state capital of El Daein, leaving El Fasher in North Darfur as the last state capital in the huge region of Darfur under army control. There have been numerous reports of atrocities in Darfur - and elsewhere.
大象传媒 Newsday heard about the conditions for civilians from Mathilde Vu who is the Sudan spokesperson for the Norwegian Refugee Council.
"We are looking at one of the largest displacement crises in the world: 6.3 million people have been displaced within Sudan and in neighbouring countries," she told Newsday. "Sadly there is no way for [them all] to be hosted. They're just stranded."
