Plans to vaccinate the children of Gaza amid war

Israeli aerial bombardment has continued in the Gaza Strip, even after the military indicated it was sending home some combat troops.

Amid a humanitarian crisis in Gaza, thousands of doses of vaccines against childhood diseases have been delivered.

The Israeli military offensive severely disrupted immunisations against highly contagious diseases including rubella, polio, measles and mumps.

Tess Ingram from Unicef told Newsday why the United Nations children's agency has donated the supplies.

鈥淲e're seeing cases of diseases rise... diarrhoea is very concerning... respiratory infections, lice, chicken pox so it's really important. We need the conditions for us to do our work... agencies are working together to overcome these challenges but it's not going to be anywhere near what it needs to be to meet the enormous need until we have a ceasefire."
