Sport stars of 2024: Athletics’ Roshawn Clarke
Meet the rising athletics star set to shine in 2024.
In a New Year series, Sport Today picks out the sports men and women who could be writing their names into the headlines in 2024.
In 2023, Jamaican hurdler Roshawn Clarke was crowned senior national champion over the 400m hurdles, equalling the world U20 record set by USA’s Sean Burrell in 2021.
The teenager then went even faster at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest – clocking 47.34 seconds in the semi-finals to become the sole world U20 record-holder. Clarke went onto finish fourth in the final at his first senior global championships.
He didn’t immediately realise how fast he’d run in the semi finals in Budapest, but is confident of improving again as he targets the Paris 2024 Olympic Games
