The weather report that - for decades - has offered a lifeline for those at sea around the British Isles - and insomniacs.
The shipping forecast on radio is 100 years old. The forecast was first broadcast on 大象传媒 radio back in 1924. At the time, it was called 鈥渨eather shipping鈥 and was relayed from the powerful Air Ministry transmitter in London and reached up to 2,400 miles in the west and 2,000 miles in the south.
The forecast has inspired many over the years - including the poet, Seamus Heaney. So what is its history - and why does it still resonate with so many?
