How often do you wash your towels?

Almost one in 10 of us only wash our towels twice a year, according to a new survey.

Almost one in 10 of us only wash our towels twice a year! That’s according to a new survey of 2,200 UK residents by bathroom suppliers Showers to You. 5% of men have admitted to washing towels once a year - compared to 1% of women.

´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour presenter Clare McDonnell was joined by Professor Sally Bloomfield from the International Scientific Forum on Home Hygiene who gave her response to the survey. She said that we should approach washing our towels like we do washing our hands to avoid getting ill.

Professor Bloomfield shared her advice, including not sharing towels and making sure they are washed at a high temperature to ensure a safe level of bacteria. She emphasised that we need to embed washing towels into our routine.
