'The amount of litter in the river is staggering'
The recent floods of the River Soar in Leicester has brought into stark focus the huge amount of litter that the river carries through the city and onwards into the Trent and then the North Sea.
A professor from the University of Leicester has posted of her shock at the sight of plastic hanging from trees and bushes left by the flood waters, particularly through the Belgrave and Watermead areas of Leicester.
Professor Sarah Gabbott - from the University of Leicester School of Geography, Geology and Environment - explained to Jack Rafferty how the litter is damaging the river's ecosystem.
