‘Iran will continue to support Yemen’
Iran says Tehran has condemned military strikes on Houthi positions in Yemen.
The United States and Britain have carried out military strikes from the air and sea against Houthi locations in Yemen, in response to the rebels' ongoing attacks on ships in the Red Sea.
The US Central Command said over 60 targets at 16 Houthi positions were hit, including command centres, munitions depots and air defence systems.
The Iran-backed group has vowed that its attacks on ships, which began after the start of the Israel-Hamas war on 7 October 2023, would continue.
The Houthis' deputy foreign minister also warned that the US and UK will "pay a heavy price" for this "blatant aggression".
Seyed Mohammad Marandi is a professor of English literature and orientalism at the University of Tehran. He told Newsday: “The Iranians have officially condemned this act, but I think there’s a lot more that they will be saying in the future…Iran supports the people of Yemen and it supports the people of Gaza…Iran will continue to support Yemen and will continue to send assistance…Iran will continue to support its territorial integrity.”
