Cockermouth's Alf Dubs Nazi escape
Lord Alf Dubs fled Prague in 1939 as a 6 year old to start a new life in the UK. His story of escape, is one out of the 10,000 children who were rescued by the Kindertransport. As Lord Dubs said, "Britain stood out as a beacon of light in 1938 and 1939" and his childhood journey of survival features in a new film, 'One Life'. It stars Anthony Hopkins, who plays Sir Nicholas Winton, who brought out 700 children from Prague, including the young Alf Dubs.
