Pakistan and Iran ‘targeting the same enemy’
Pakistan has carried out strikes on what it called terrorist hideouts across the border in Iran, two days after Iranian attacks on Pakistani soil.
The foreign ministry said a number of people were killed during what it called highly coordinated military operations in Sistan and Baluchistan province.
Earlier this week, Iran used similar language, saying it had targeted the Jaish al-Adl group in the Pakistani part of Baluchistan.
Abbas Dahouk is a retired US Colonel and a former defence attaché to Saudi Arabia. He told Newsday: “The puzzling piece is both are striking pretty much the same enemy…so they both agree that they have the same enemy, yet they could not find a diplomatic way to do it.â€
In his view, the strikes by both sides are “more of a political event than an imminent threat issue.â€
