Is Camden gay pub The Black Cap finally reopening?
Camden鈥檚 legendary Black Cap pub is finally looking set to reopen. The pub shut in April 2015, only days after it was declared an Asset of Community Value by Camden Council.
Since then, every week, loyal punters and performers have staged protests against the closure and the site's owners who've made several unsuccessful attempts to develop the building into flats.
In it's heyday, the pub was home to legendary drag performers including Danny La Rue (pictured above), HIH Regina Fong, Rex Jameson鈥檚 legendary Mrs Shufflewick & Lilly Savage were regularly on the famous stage.
Now, after almost a decade of campaigning, plans for the pub and cabaret space to reopen as an LGBTQ+ hub have been lodged at Town Hall.
So how has this come about? And why is the Black Cap so loved by London's gay community? 大象传媒 Radio London's Jim Davis has the story.
