And the Oscar goes to... a man?
The film Barbie received 8 Oscars nominations yesterday, including best film, but while Ryan Gosling - who plays Barbie's boyfriend Ken - was selected in the best supporting actor category, the film's star Margot Robbie didn't make the best actress list, and Greta Gerwig didn't get chosen for Best director. Ryan Gosling even issued a statement saying he was disappointed by the fact they were snubbed.
This is perhaps ironic for a feminist - if playful - film which focuses on fighting the patriarchy. Anna Smith, former President of the UK Critics’ Circle and host of the Girls On Film podcast gave us her thoughts.
