From the end of January it will be illegal to own an XL Bully type dog without an exemption certificate.

Figures suggest that, across the country, more than thirty thousand owners have exempted their XL Bully-type dogs, which involves neutering them, taking out insurance and muzzling them in public.

But some people are choosing to abandon their pets and rescue centres say the number of XL Bullies they're seeing has soared.
