Sky Sports presenter urges women not to delay their smear tests

Sky Sports presenter Jo Wilson was diagnosed with Stage 3C cervical cancer 19 months after the birth of her daughter in 2020.

Having had a difficult birth experience, she said she’d put her routine smear test on the back burner.

NHS data shows that almost a third of women in England did not attend their smear tests last year.

Following successful treatment, Jo told Woman’s Hour presenter Emma Barnett why she wanted to warn women against delaying a smear test.

Emma and Jo were also joined in the conversation by Theresa Freeman-Wang, a consultant gynaecologist at the Whittington Health NHS Trust and clinical advisor to the cervical cancer charity, Jo's Trust. She outlined the symptoms of cervical cancer that women should be aware of and what to do if you’re concerned.

You can listen to Jo’s full interview on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Sounds - it’s the Woman’s Hour episode from 30 January.
