As part of Radio 5 Live’s ‘Policing the UK’ series, Chris Warburton visited Meadowfield Police Training Centre in Durham to take a behind-the-scenes look at what police recruits get up to throughout their training course.

We followed three new police recruits on the first day of their police constable degree apprenticeship.

Lily, Dan and James told us how they felt before the day started, and then we caught up with them again at the end of the day.

Lily said: "I'm really nervous but excited to see what today's going to hold".

After her first day - where she collected her uniform and warrant badge - Lily reflected on the day saying "the highlight of my first day was probably meeting the Chief Constable".

Dan also said how much he enjoyed the chief's visit, adding that it was good to learn "where her journey begun and what her motivation was in joining the police".
