Sex And The City author: ‘It’s about being your own Mr Big, as opposed to finding your Mr Big’

Sex And The City author Candace Bushnell, whose newspaper column and novel were the inspiration behind the TV series, joined Anita Rani in the Woman’s Hour studio on Friday.

She told Anita about how growing up in the ‘sexist’ 1960s inspired her creativity and what message she wanted to give to women through her work.

Candace said that she thought women should try to be their own Mr Big, rather than long to find one. Mr Big is the love interest of the main character in the series, Carrie Bradshaw. She added that she’s always wanted to inspire women to think differently to how society portrays them.

Candace’s new one-woman show - True Tales of Sex, Success and SEX AND THE CITY - is about to start touring in the UK.

You can listen to the full interview on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Sounds - it’s the Woman’s Hour episode from 2 February.
