Actor Ambika Mod joined Anita Rani in the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour studio. She spoke about why she initially said no to auditioning for her new leading role, after feeling wiped out from her break-out role in This Is Going to Hurt.

She said no one prepared her for that ‘overwhelming experience’ and that she got to the point where her ‘cup overfloweth’.

Ambika plays Emma in the Netflix adaptation of David Nicholls’ novel, One Day. The story follows Emma and Leo Woodall’s Dex in the epic love story, where the two protagonists reunite on the same day every year.

She told Anita that she didn’t initially see herself playing the role, as she hadn’t seen other women of colour on-screen as romantic leads.

She also discussed the importance of representation on-screen and how years of hard graft have finally paid off, after working long hours whilst trying to make it as a comedian after leaving university.
