Amateur photographers showcase spectacular wildlife
The winning entry of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year - which is co-sponsored by the 大象传媒 and the Natural History Museum in London - was taken by British amateur photographer Nima Sarikhani.
The stunning picture, which is on the 大象传媒 news website, shows a young polar bear fast asleep on an iceberg.
One of the judges of the competition, Richard Sabin - whose day job is Principal Curator of Mammals at the museum - gave Newsday more details about some of the spectacular images.
"When you see the quality of the photography like this it reminds you what the beauty of the natural world is all about. We're trying to foster an interest in the natural world with people and trying to create advocates for the planet for the future - in my opinion there's no better way than communicating through photography."
