West Midlands home-schooled numbers rising
The number of children being taught at home across the West Midlands has jumped by more than 2,000, according to the latest government figures.
At the start of the autumn term in 2022 there were 9,080 pupils being home-schooled, but the number had jumped to 11,130 by last summer, the Department of Education (DofE) said.
In Sandwell there has been an 81% rise, from 402 in 2019-20 to 730.
Figures were issued to 大象传媒 Radio WM in a freedom of information request.
In Birmingham, there were 2,660 children being home-schooled by summer 2023, up from 2,120 at the start of the academic year, DofE figures revealed.
In Wolverhampton over the same period, the figures rose from 460 to 540.
